Reliable Charging with Accurate Power Logging:
EV chargers equipped with FeRAM ensure peace of mind even during power outages.
FeRAM’s fast write speed and high endurance allow to accurately log the amount of power charged to an EV even during outages or momentary interruptions, enabling proper billing for users. It also allows logging of irregular events such as voltage and frequency fluctuations.
Use of FeRAM in EV Chargers

EV chargers receive power from the grid and supply it to EV batteries either as AC (AC chargers) or as DC converted from AC (DC fast chargers). FeRAM can be used in both types. It ensures accurate logging of charged power even during outages or momentary interruptions, enabling proper billing. Additionally, logging irregular events like voltage or frequency fluctuations helps identify the root causes of issues.
Example of FeRAM application in DC Charger

Benefits of Using FeRAM in Power Meter Units
FeRAM offers fast write speeds and high endurance, making it suitable for frequent logging. This ensures accurate power logging even during outages or interruptions.
Case of low Logging Frequency
In the example below, power supplied by the EV charger is measured in 9 intervals and logged to non-volatile memory.
Although there are 3 momentary interruptions, the low logging frequency results in missed data during the green sections where power drops to zero.

Case of high Logging Frequency
In this example, logging occurs every 100 milliseconds.
Despite 3 interruptions, the high logging frequency ensures accurate power recording of the EV charger.

Lifespan of Non-Volatile Memories with 100ms Logging Intervals
On the same logging intervals condition, FeRAM in EV chargers can be used for a longer time in comparison with EEPROM and NOR Flash as shown in the table below.
| FeRAM (MS85R4M2TA) | EEPROM (M95M01) | NOR FLASH (W20Q10RL) |
| over 100 years | 27 hours | 2.7 hours |
Advantages of Using FeRAM
FeRAM enables accurate logging of charged power during outages or interruptions, ensuring proper billing.
It also logs irregular events like voltage and frequency fluctuations, aiding in root cause analysis.
